Do Not Tolerate Your Flesh

To read

“I have the right to do anything,” you say but not everything is beneficial.
~ I Corinthians 10:23 NIV

Let’s get something straight: your flesh is not your friend.

It doesn’t want to pray.
It doesn’t want to fast.
It doesn’t want to forgive.
It wants comfort. It wants control. It wants compromise and it will dress it up in freedom if you’re not paying attention.

We live in a time where “boundaries” are applauded but “conviction” is mocked. Where people will tell you, “Do what makes you happy,” but rarely, “Do what makes you holy.”

But here’s the truth: not everything that’s allowed is aligned with God.
Not everything that’s comfortable is Christlike.
And not everything you can do is something you should do.

Free Will Is Not a Free Pass

God gave us free will not to do whatever we want, but to choose Him even when we don’t want to.

You might say, “It’s not a sin!”
But here’s the better question: “Does it help me grow in righteousness?”
Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. That’s maturity and spiritual discipline.

Paul put it plainly:

“All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.
~1 Corinthians 6:12

Permissible, yes. But if it is dominating? Distracting? Destructive?

Why tolerate it?

The Flesh Shouldn’t Get a Seat at the Table

Your flesh isn’t neutral. It’s in rebellion against God.

“For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh.”
~ Galatians 5:17

That means you don’t coddle it. You crucify it.

“Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”
~ Galatians 5:24

No, this is not simply about what to do. It’s about war.

You are in a war for your mind. Your body. Your soul.
And the worst thing you can do is make peace with what Jesus died to defeat.

Grace Isn’t a Get-Out-of-Conviction-Free Card

Let me be clear: grace is beautiful and we thank God for it everyday.
But grace isn’t permission to sin. It’s power to overcome it.

Grace doesn’t wink at the flesh. It empowers you to walk by the Spirit.

So if you’re still asking, “How close can I get to the line without crossing it?” then you’re asking the wrong question.
Ask instead, “How far can I run toward righteousness?”

Because holiness still matters.

“Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”
~ Hebrews 12:14

Dear Yahweh’s Delight,

Starve what is starving your spirit.
Tear down the altars built to self.
Don’t flirt with what God told you to flee.
The goal is not just avoiding sin. It’s becoming like Christ. So when you feel the flesh rise, don’t tolerate it.
Don’t justify it. Don’t negotiate with it.
Crucify it. Go for the jugular and break it!!
